The Israeli Surgical Association (ISA) was established in the year of 1959 by a group of Israeli surgeons as a joined party of all surgical medical specialties. This was under the support of the Israeli Medical Association, the home of all professional Associations in Israel. With the years passing by, few of these specialties evolved into stand-alone professions and therefore progressed to separate surgical societies.
ISA is now the home for almost 700 general surgeons and the assembling of 9 different societies -
- The society of hepato biliary surgery
- The society of advanced laparoscopic surgery
- The society of endocrine surgery
- The society of trauma and emergency surgery
- The society of surgical oncology
- The society of abdominal wall reconstruction
- The society of breast health and surgery
- The society of metabolic and bariatric surgery
- The society of Colo-Rectal Surgery
The Israeli Surgical Association encompasses also two forums: the forum of general surgery residents and the forum of surgical nurses. The society of foregut surgery will be launched shortly.
ISA is in academic relation with the transplantation and pediatric surgery societies who are at present under the umbrella of IMA.
Each society keeps yearly schedule of academic endeavors. The association gathers activity in a yearly congress that embraces on clinical as well as basic science research.
ISA activity in residents’ education is diverse and multidimensional. Cognitive knowledge as well as surgical skills acquisition throughout the six years of residency is well constructed and supervised. ISA carries special activities for trainees such as US courses, basic laparoscopic skills laboratory, laparoscopic simulator classes, emergency surgery course, open abdomen management course, abdominal wall reconstruction workshop etc.
The Israeli Surgical Association Internet School of Surgery will be launched in January of 2018. The school activity is CME accredited and a step toward the establishment of a proficiency based residency program in general surgery.
We call upon surgeons around the world to join ISA and share with us their knowledge, wisdom and dedication for patients care. For further information, registration or donations please contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
